Drive-in to host Lehighton Bike Night

For the third straight year, Lehighton Bike Night will be held at a different venue.

This time around, the 18th annual event will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Mahoning Drive-In, 635 Seneca Road, Lehighton. Skill run registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon.The Lehighton Bike Night Committee said a proposal by the Mahoning Drive-In to host this year's event sparked the interest of vendors, volunteers and spectators.As part of the event, a pair of biker-friendly films will be shown on the drive-in's big screen, drive-in owner Jeff Mattox said.Mattox said the double feature will consist of the films "Easy Rider" and "The Wild One."Bike Night committee members said they jumped at the opportunity due to the drive-in's unique features.The event promises to be a great time, local businesswoman Charmaine Bradley said."The events team is putting on a good show and will have delicious food, live entertainment and vendors," Bradley said.Bike games, a variety of vendors, entertainment from Fast Eddie, Jigsaw Johnny and Stereotype, and a Chinese auction will also be part of the event.The Chinese auction beneficiary will be the Valor clinic. Valor (Veterans Assisted Living Out Reach) was co-founded in 2008 by veterans Mark Baylis and Tony Cross.People or businesses interested in donating items toward the Chinese auction may do so by contacting Bradley at

tsidjs@ptd.net.This year's event figures to be bigger than ever, according to Ty Poole, owner of the Boatyard Bar & Grill."This has always been a great event since its founding in 1999 by Ed Finney," Poole said. "It makes Lehighton a destination."Last year's event was hosted by the Franklin Township Fire Company.In 2014, it was held at the Grove in Lehighton, as well as the surrounding areas of Seventh, Eighth, Iron and Alum streets.That came after the event had been held in the borough's lower and upper park each of the previous 15 years.The rain date for this year's event is Aug. 14.For more information, visit lehightonbikenight.org or check it out on Facebook/Lehighton Bike Night 2016.
