At a special meeting last night in the council chambers at the Phoenix Hose Company, Jim Thorpe Borough Council hired seven men for extra police duty.

Their salaries were set at $2.15 per hour.Included were John T. Hartman, 35, of 41 Race St.; David Tracey, of 6 W. Front St.; Gerald J. McFadden, 28, of 46 W. Broadway; John D. Maehrer, 24, of 355 W. Broadway; Richard D. Karper, 21, of 31 E. Third St.; Edward N. Nonnemacher, 41, of 927 North St.; and Thomas E. Rogal, 30, of 8 W. Front St.Members of the police committee were directed to meet with Mayor Francis Helferty at 6:30 p.m. Monday to examine police equipment.
