An 81-year-old man was flown to a Lehigh Valley hospital after being trapped at a residence located at 90 Rock St. in Franklin Township early Friday evening.
A dwelling fire was reported just after 7 p.m. with possible entrapment.Five fire companies from throughout Carbon County were called to the scene to fight the fast-moving blaze. Firefighters and apparatus, including tankers, were on scene from Lehighton, Mahoning Valley, Bowmanstown, Parryville and Towamensing fire companies.The residence was located behind the Hampton Inn. The victim, whose name was not released, was rescued from the structure quickly after firefighters arrived.According to Franklin Township Fire Chief Lynn Diehl, CPR was preformed on the elderly man until the ambulance arrived. He was taken to Lehighton’s Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital before being flown to the Lehigh Valley.“We went through two tanker loads of water,” Diehl said about the blaze.The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state police fire marshal.
