Schuylkill County commissioners

Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday approved a five-year contract with Otis Elevator Company to maintain the gearless elevator at the Children & Youth Services agency building at 324 Centre St., Pottsville.

There is no charge for the first year, but the contract will cost $5,220 a year for the remaining four years.In other matters, commissioners:• Agreed to seek bids for plowing and hauling of snow and ice, salting and cindering of county parking lots.Bids will be opened at the commissioners' work session onAug. 3.• Appointed Brock Stein of Tamaqua to fill the unexpired term of Roy Heim of Orwigsburg, who has resigned from the Schuylkill County Municipal Authority. The term is from July 13 through Dec. 31, 2018.• Agreed to publish notice of a second modification hearing to the 2014 Tamaqua Community Development Block Grant program to fund the purchase of a pool lift and steps for handicap access to the community swimming pool.• Approve a $52,293 contract with M&J Excavation for the Hancock Street drainage improvement CDBG project in McAdoo. Bids were opened on May 18, but the plans had to be reviewed by the Kline Township Municipal Authority as a waterline had to be relocated for the project.Also on Wednesday, Controller Christy D. Joy told the retirement board the county's portfolio was doing well. As of that morning, the fund stood at $124,754,482. On June 30, it was $121,726,863.
