Lehighton's Town Council without a dissenting vote passed the curfew ordinance making it illegal for any person under 18 years to be on the streets of the borough or in any public place unaccompanied by a parent, custodian or guardian after 11 p.m.

The purpose of this ordinance is to reduce juvenile delinquency in the borough, which has become a real police problem without the help of an adequate local law. The curfew ordinance was requested by the police department and the ministerium. For the violation of the ordinance, the parent, custodian or guardian will face a fine of not less than $1 or more than $5 or detention in the borough lockup not to exceed five days.
