West Penn employee killed while cutting grass

A female employee of West Penn Township was killed this afternoon while cutting grass.

Tina Hoppes, 54, of New Ringgold, was cutting grass along a stream near the township community park on Zions Stone Church Road when the embankment gave out.

The riding lawn mower rolled down the bank pinning her under the water.

The roll bar of the mower was not fixed and the seat belts were not in use.

Hoppes was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:40 p.m. by deputy coroner David Truskowsky.

Dr. David J. Moylan was scheduled to perform a virtual autopsy on the deceased at 6:15 p.m.
