An elderly Schuylkill County couple was killed Tuesday morning after their car was struck broadside by another vehicle.
Authorities said the crash occurred at 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Route 61 and Russell Street in Saint Clair.The couple was identified as John A. Yanchulis, 87, and his wife Jean Yanchulis, 82, of 240 S. Second St., Apt. 17, Frackville.According to reports Mrs. Yanchulis was operating a Chevrolet Cobalt southbound on Route 61 and attempted to turn left onto Russell Street. As she turned her vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a Jeep Liberty sports utility vehicle operated northbound on Route 61 by Stephanie Long, 44, of Philadelphia. The Yanchulis vehicle spun 360 degrees and came to rest along the northbound lane while the Long vehicle jumped over the center median and struck a vehicle operated by Albert Amberlavage, 54, of Shenandoah, who was stopped in the southbound left lane.John Yanchulis, who was trapped in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Yanchulis was pronounced dead at the Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street, Pottsville. Long was injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street, Pottsville. Amberlavage was not injured.Saint Clair police are investigating.
