FT clubs roll to big wins

Both Franklin Township teams posted easy wins in the opening round of the Panther Valley Little League 9-10 tournament Monday.

FT White defeated Tamaqua Blue, while FT Maroon downed Lansford.In another game, Towamensing bested Jim Thorpe Red.PVLL TOURNAMENT9-10 YEAR-OLDSFT White-Tam. BlueAiden Rarick had three hits and scored three runs to help Franklin Township White gain a 12-1 win over Tamaqua Blue.Michael Bowman contributed a double and knocked in three runs. The winners, who scored 10 times in the third inning, also received a hit, two runs, and an RBI from Austin Greene.Adam Bastone aided the winning cause with a hit and two RBIs, while Michael Yeakel and Brady O'Donnell both chipped in with a hit, run, and RBI.Greene gained the pitching win, striking out seven.For Tamaqua, Mason Ligenza had a hit and an RBI.JT Red-TowamensingMikayla Pengelly had three hits and scored four runs to help power Towamensing to a 17-7 victory over Towamensing.Mason Becker collected three hits and scored three times for the winners, while A.J. Borger added two hits and a pair of runs.For Jim Thorpe, Ben Goldberg and Brandon Klitch both had two hits and scored twice. Aiden Sterling also knocked in two runs.FT Maroon-LansfordEleven different players scored runs for Franklin Township Maroon during a 25-0 win over Lansford.Dawson Keiser and Tanner Manogue both had three hits and scored four runs for Franklin. One of Manogue's hits was a triple.Varick Peiffer added three hits and three runs. Peiffer also gained the pitching win, not allowing a hit in three innings of work.Michael Gelatko also collected three hits, two of them triples, while scoring two runs.KEYSTONE SR. BRPlayoffsThree Times News area teams will compete in the Keystone Senior Babe Ruth double-elimination playoff tournament, which begins on Thursday, July 14.The Panther Valley Black Diamonds earned the first seed and will host the fourth-seeded Franklin Township Hurricanes in the opening round.The Towamensing Joe's, seeded second, will host the third-seeded East Stroudsburg Mustangs.The second round will take place on Saturday, July 16.between both winners and losers of the first round.On Monday, July 18, the winner's bracket semifinal loser will take on loser's bracket lone survivor. The winner will be the final team in the championship game.The title game will be played on Wednesday, July 20 with the potential rubber-match to determine a champion on Friday, July 22.
