Holiday Homecoming Chorus to perform at closing ceremony

The holiday Homecoming Chorus has been invited to sing "Mansions of the Lord" at the closing ceremony for The Moving Wall on July 24.

Members of church choirs, choral groups, or anyone else who would like to sing are invited to join the choir to remember and honor our veterans. The chorus will be accompanied by the Palmerton Band.The first practice will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesdayat First United Church of Christ, 457 Delaware Ave., in Palmerton. On Wednesday,the choir will rehearse with the band at the bandstand in the Palmerton Borough Park. If necessary, there will be a final rehearsal with the band on July 20.If you plan to participate or need more information, contact Darlene Nothstein at 610-826-7339 or 610-737-1559, so enough music is available.For those who don't want to sing but would like to help in some way, donations are being accepted to help cover the costs associated with the wall.Municipalities, business and patrons at Country Harvest and the Palmerton pool have all made donations. T-shirts and hats with the wall featured on them are also available. The shirts are available in fluorescent yellow and tan. The funds will go to help support the project. To purchase a hat or T-shirt, call Joseph Uhnak at 610-349-2153.The veterans' organizations are also raising money to construct an 80-foot flagpole at the entrance to Palmerton, where Delaware Avenue and Hazard Road meet.The veterans want to improve the location and display a special extra-large U.S. flag. The flag flew over the U.S. Army headquarters in Iraq and was presented to the borough of Palmerton by Sgt. Maj. of the Army Daniel Dailey.

The funds given to Moyer will be put toward the construction of an 80-foot flagpole at the entrance to the borough where Delaware Avenue and Hazard Road meet. The project is being organized by the United Veterans Organization of Palmerton. An extra-large U.S. flag will be displayed on the pole. The money is to be used to help pay for expenses incurred to bring The Moving Wall to the Palmerton Borough Park from July 21 to 25.
