Girls show off pageant skills in showcase

The sesquicentennial showcase at last week's150th celebration in Lehighton brought out girls to show off their best pageant skills.

There were girls from ages 6-14 who opened with a dance number and followed with modeling and answering questions."I thought it would be a good experience," said Jenna Kroboth, a contestant in the running for the Princess title.Competitor Sophia Foreaker was of a similar opinion."Miss Kim brought it up and I thought it would be really neat to try it," she said.Both girls are involved with the Dance With Kim School of Performing Arts.The night started off with a dance number. While the girls changed for the modeling series, Aida Pope from Dance With Kim performed "You've Been Schooled."Next the Little Miss contestants modeled historic novelty costumes to celebrate Lehighton's first 100 years, 1866-1966. The girls also answered questions from hostess Brittany Semmel.Then Kroboth and Foreaker, the two runners in the Princess competition, modeled casual dresses and were asked what their favorite thing about Lehighton is.During this quick change, Britani Graver from TNT Studio of Dance performed "Dressed in Black."Next both groups of girls modeled their favorite party dress.Before the crowning, Bri Holtzer and Jordyn Zwetolitz from Dance With Kim performed "Sabre Dance."The girls were judged 5 percent for photogenic ability, 10 percent for the opening number, 50 percent for historic costume/casual wear and interview, and 35 percent for party dress."They did it to bring people out, show community spirit. They wanted to participate in the celebration," said Lauren Zimmerman, mother of Vivian Zimmerman, who was in the Little Miss category.Finally Jenna Kroboth was crowned Princess, and Serenity Foreaker was crowned Little Miss.Patty Rehrig, who came to support Ryleigh Hansler, said the show was "All so cute. I loved how proud they all were. They should be."
