Wanted Tamaqua woman faces new charges

A 27-year-old Tamaqua woman who was wanted by the Tamaqua Police Department on an outstanding felony warrant was picked up by state police at the Lehighton barracks at 1:17 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of routes 443 and 209 in Lehighton, after which time she was found to be under the influence of drugs.

Police said the woman faces a number of new charges, including DUI, possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of children.Police said they stopped a vehicle being driven by the woman after it was determined she was wanted by Tamaqua police. Police said it was determined she was under the influence of marijuana and methamphetamines at the time, and was driving a vehicle with two youths as passengers, including an 8-month-old and a 6-year-old. She was also found to be in possession of methamphetamines.Police said she was transported to the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital in Lehighton, for a blood test. Results are pending.The woman was then released to the Tamaqua Police Department.
