Police busy with holiday DUIs

The results of a driving under the influence checkpoint operation conduct by troopers at the Lehighton barracks over the holiday weekend were reported.

The checkpoint operation was conducted from Saturday into Sunday.The results of the operation had five motorists arrested for DUI of alcohol or a controlled substance, 30 citations were issued, five other misdemeanor arrests were made, and three underage drinking citations issued.In addition, a motorist was arrested for being in possession of a controlled substance and a felony warrant was served during the operation.Incidents include:• A 25-year-old woman from Drexel Hill was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after state police at the Lehighton barracks made a traffic stop at 12:44 p.m. Sunday in the 2100 block of Pohopoco Drive in Franklin Township.Police said the woman was stopped for a Motor Vehicle Code violation, after which time she was found to be under the influence of marijuana.• State police at the Lehighton barracks said they arrested a 25-year-old Lehighton man on charges of driving under the influence after a traffic stop made on Route 248 in Franklin Township.Police said they halted a vehicle for a Motor Vehicle Code violation at 2:38 a.m. Saturday, after which time the driver was taken into custody for DUI.The charges are pending the result of blood test, police said.• A 32-year-old Roseto man is facing charges of driving under the influence of drugs as a result of a traffic stop made by state police at the Lehighton barracks at 2:20 a.m. Sunday on Old Route 115 in Ross Township.Police said they made a traffic stop for a Motor Vehicle Code violation after which time the man was placed into custody for suspicion of DUI.Police said the charges will be filed pending the result of a blood analysis.• A 49-year-old Kunkletown man will be cited for driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop made by state police at the Lehighton barracks at 2 p.m. Saturday along Burger Hollow Road in Polk Township.Police said in addition to the charge of driving under the influence of drugs, they found marijuana in the man's possession, resulting in the latter two charges.• A 29-year-old Palmerton man is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol after state police at the Lehighton barracks made a traffic stop at 2:20 a.m. Saturday on Delaware Avenue in Palmerton.Police said they stopped the vehicle in the 700 block of Delaware for a Motor Vehicle Code violation. The driver was placed into custody for suspicion of DUI/alcohol.The charge is pending the result of a blood analysis, police said.• When state police at the Lehighton barracks stopped a vehicle for a cracked windshield at 11:05 a.m. Monday at the Beltzville State Park in Towamensing Township, they ended up arresting an Allentown man for driving under the influence of drugs.Police said after they stopped the vehicle driven by the 33-year-old, he was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of a small amount of marijuana.Police said the charges will be filed pending the result of blood tests administered to the man.• State police at the Lehighton barracks arrested a 19-year-old man from New Berlin for driving under the influence after a traffic stop made at 2:15 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of routes 903 and 209 in Jim Thorpe.Police said they stopped a 2007 Toyota Scion coupe for several Motor Vehicle Code violations, after which time they observed the operator exhibiting signs and indicators of drug impairment and being under the influence of alcohol.He was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton, for a blood test.The charges are pending the results of BAC and toxicology tests.• A 50-year-old Palmerton man is facing driving under the influence charges as a result of a traffic stop made by state police at the Lehighton barracks at 1 a.m. Saturday on Route 209, about 1.5 miles west of the intersection with Route 903 in the Borough of Nesquehoning.Police said they stopped a white 2000 Chevrolet Astro van for several Motor Vehicle Code violations. The operator showed indicators of drug impairment. Police said he was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton, for a blood test.
