Catching the train

Train excursions through the historic Tamaqua Tunnel and onto the breezy Hometown High Bridge, towering 180 feet over the valley, were a big draw during Sunday’s 26th Tamaqua Summerfest, sponsored by the Tamaqua Historical Society. Here, visitors Donald Shoup of Wind Gap and Darlene Straub of Shamokin are welcomed aboard the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway diesel-powered passenger cars by car host Larry Curvey of Tamaqua, right, and Bill Bubeck, behind Shoup. The day also featured a sneak peek of the society’s new Tamaqua Area Historical Museum, West Broad Street, and its million-dollar overhaul.
