Theft of UPS package

A New York man who took delivery of a package not intended for him will answer to a charge after the McAdoo incident.

McAdoo police say John Mercedes, 37, intercepted a UPS package being delivered to a building on South Kennedy Drive on June 1 by claiming to be the person whose name was on the package label.The package contained a security camera and related equipment valued at $161.59, according to the police report.Mercedes eventually turned over the package to police, who indicated the box had been torn open at both ends and the contents were gone. In addition, all identifying shipping and return labels had been removed, police said.Mercedes was unable to provide information to lead police to the whereabouts of the contents.Police charged Mercedes with theft.
