Summer meals program starts Monday

For many kids, summertime means food, friends and fun. For families who count on school breakfast and lunch, the summer months can be stressful with food budgets stretched even further.

There's good news though. Free meals are available to kids and teens ages 18 and younger at summer meals sites across the Panther Valley. The meals are healthy and based on U.S. Department of Agriculture nutrition guidelines, and there is no application or proof of income needed. The summer meals will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays from June 13 to Aug. 19 in Summit Hill, Lansford and Coaldale. In Summit Hill, the meals will be available at the Summit Hill Heritage Center, 1 W. Hazard St. There are two locations in Lansford: St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St. and Lansford Townhouses on Route 209. In Coaldale, the meals will be provided at Christ Redeemer Church, 151 Third St.Summertime should be a stress-free. Free summer meals can help.
