Safety event scheduled at Baer pool

A free community safety event will be held Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Baer Memorial Pool on Bridge Street in Lehighton.

According to Sue Howland, Franklin and East Penn elementary school principal, the event, titled "Engaging School, Home and Community," will feature giveaways from local businesses, school organization baskets, math and reading supplies, Fot-o-Kid identifications, gift certificates and more.Children in grades K-8 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.Participating groups include Title I Math & Reading, Family Promise, the Attorney General's Office, Jack n Jill Preschool, Lehighton Borough Police, Carbon County Right from the Start, Carbon County Sheriff's Department, Lehighton/Franklin Fire Departments, Turn to Us, Penn's Peak Radio, Lehighton Area Booster Club, CLIU 21, Bo Tkach Foundation, Pyramid Performance Center, St. Matthew's Preschool, Jack n Jill Preschool, Mountain Karate Academy, Hershey Kissmobile, SHINE Program, Carbon Monroe Pike MHMR, Summer Wellness, Baltimore Life, Carbon County Safe Kids, Mahoning Township Fire Department, "Doc" Layne Roberts, Venture Crew, Lehighton Memorial Library, Lehighton 150 Celebration, Special Kids Network, Girl and Boy Scouts, Lehigh Carbon Community College, East Penn and Franklin parent teacher organizations, Northeast Kayak and more.Hot dogs, snacks and drinks will be provided.For more information, contact Howland at 610-377-4490, or
