Lancaster man admits stealing jewelry

A Lancaster man admitted in Carbon County court to stealing jewelry valued at over $5,000 over four years ago.

He was one of six defendants in theft-related cases to enter a plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.Ian Hey, 31, pleaded to one count of theft, as a misdemeanor one. He admitted taking $5,822 worth of jewelry from a residence in Mahoning Township on Nov. 20, 2011. The charges were filed May 31, 2014, but the case lingered in the system as there were at least 25 continuances filed by defense counsel. Also, Hey failed to appear for a pretrial conference when it was finally scheduled in 2015. He was picked up on a bench warrant and had bail reset.He was scheduled for trial Monday but instead decided to enter a plea.Matika placed him on probation for two years and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation, render 100 hours of community service, and make restitution of $5,822. He was noted he has paid $2,661 in restitution to date and will pay the remainder in monthly payments of no less than $200 per month.
