Woman admits stealing weapons from dad

A Carbon County woman admitted in the county court on Friday to stealing weapons from her father to sell and get money to feed a drug habit.

Marissa Jane Pekurny, 22, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of theft for an incident on March 19, 2014. In exchange for the plea the charge was downgraded from a felony two to a misdemeanor one.Pekurny admitted stealing six firearms from the home of her father in Mahoning Township and selling them to get cash to feed her heroin habit. The weapons included shotguns and rifles.Since her arrest she spent an extended period of time in an inpatient rehabilitation program and also was in jail before being furloughed to the rehab.As part of the plea agreement, Judge Joseph J. Matika placed her on the longest probation period allowed for the charge, five years, and ordered her to render 100 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, make total restitution of $670, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
