Work in progress at former Leiby's Restaurant

Talk of a return of Leiby's Restaurant in South Tamaqua continues.

On Friday, Leiby's Restaurant website was updated to announce plans for a reopening by members of the Leiby family, relatives of the original owners.The potential reopening of Leiby's has been an on-again, off-again story since February."We apologize for the premature release of this news earlier this year," states the site.On Thursday, a Scranton media outlet reported that Daniel Leiby and his father are in the process of renovating the property and hope to open in five months.The website, however, lists no contact phone number and the Leibys could not be reached for comment.On May 25, the property was sold by K Mar Properties of Bethlehem to Leiby Establishments LLC for $495,000, according to courthouse records.
