Reading man skipped out on cab fare in Nesquehoning

A Reading man who police said took a taxi to Nesquehoning after midnight and failed to pay for the service was arrested by borough police after he showed up at a Catawissa Street apartment building without authorization.

Police arrested Damian Lee Creighton, 20, on charges of theft of services/acquisition of services, criminal trespass and loitering and prowling at night time.Police said they were called to 127 W. Catawissa St. at 12:14 a.m. June 2, when they were told by an Angel Rivas that a man he transported there from Reading failed to pay the $120 fare. The taxi driver told police he observed the man attempting to access Apartment 4 at the building, then was unable to locate him.Two occupants of the apartment, Kaitlin Karnish and Ebony Crick, told police they did not authorize anyone to be there. Police checked the apartment and didn't find him.The women told police the description of the man seemed to be "Damian" who talks to a roommate identified as a Diane Boyle. Police contacted Boyle via telephone and she told them she did not authorize the man to be there.Police said Creighton was later found hiding under clothing in the back porch area of the building that houses a laundry. Police said they located Creighton near the intersection of Catawissa and Ratcliff streets. Upon questioning, the man eventually confessed to police that he had no intention of paying the taxi driver and that he was not told he was welcome at the apartment building.Police said he was lodged in the Carbon County Prison in Nesquehoning, to await arraignment by an on-call duty magistrate.
