A Carbon County man was sentenced to a county prison term on Thursday on a charge of burglary.
Joseph George Wolfe, 38, of Beaver Meadows, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve six to one day less 24 months in prison.Wolf was charged by state police at Hazleton with entering an unoccupied garage along Station Lane in Packer Township on Oct. 25, 2010, and removing a pistol and $100 in cash.Wolfe told Matika he was addicted to heroin at the time but has since gone through counseling and claimed he had been drug-free since 2013. He said the Beaver Meadows incident was followed by other criminal activity in Luzerne County, all while he was on illegal substances. He left Pennsylvania and went to South Carolina and lived there for a period of time.He told Matika, "I did come back to the state to take care of everything."In addition to the jail term, Matika ordered Wolfe to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, render 75 hours of community service when paroled, supply a DNA sample, make restitution of $823.65 to the victim, have no contact with the victim, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.He will begin the jail term on June 6 at 9 a.m. and was granted work release privileges.
