The remains of a house on Hahns Dairy Road in Lower Towamensing Township still smoldered two days later as rain drizzled on the property.

The house owned by Leonard and Geraldine Starkey caught fire late Wednesday night and burned to the ground. Geraldine Starkey said Friday she could not talk about the fire at this time, because it has been too shocking and traumatic.Fire Chief Bill George said he does not know why the fire started. The investigation is being handled by the state fire marshal, who was at the property on Thursday, he said. George had not received a report on the cause, and the fire marshal was not available for comment."It was an older structure," George said.The Aquashicola Fire Co. responded to the house fire at 11:03 p.m. Wednesday. Safety Officer Rory Koons said the whole rear section of the two-story house was engulfed in flames. Fire companies from Palmerton, Trachsville, Bowmanstown, Parryville and Franklin Township responded to the scene, as well as ambulance companies from Walnutport and Palmerton.The couple was not injured in the fire.When asked if a Go Fund Me site may be created to help the couple, Geraldine Starkey said she doesn't think they need one."There are people worse off than us," she said.
