State police at Frackville are warning Schuylkill County residents about an IRS phone scam, with a county woman as the latest victim.
Troopers said a 61-year-old woman from Cass Township reported she received a phone call from an person claiming to be from the IRS and instructed her to purchase iTunes gift cards for payment. The woman purchased $600 in gift cards and provided the caller with the card numbers.Troopers said the caller was not from the IRS.Troopers are urging residents not to fall victim to this scam which is occurring on a daily basis.Troopers urge residents not to provide anyone with bank and checks information, credit card information or any other valuable information if they receive such a call.Anyone who has also been a victim of this type of scam and has not yet reported it should call troopers at 570-874-5300.
