Distillery gets preliminary approval

Sky LLC received preliminary plan approval to build a distillery in Penn Forest Township.

Sky Fogel of Sky LLC appeared before the township zoning hearing board on Thursday evening to request a special exception to build a distillery in the township.The company will operate under a Limited Distillery License from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. According to Fogel the distillery will produce about 20 gallons of alcohol per week. The product will be available for sale in the building's tasting room where visitors will be permitted to taste a 1.5 ounce sample of the product."The building design will be a cross between a barn and a church," said Fogel. "There will be a glass window in the tasting room looking into the still."The still is copper with a stainless steel steam jacket. The building will be served by the PPL substation located directly across from the location.The distillery will be located in front of the Skirmish paintball site owned by the Fogel family.The zoning board did grant approval for the preliminary plans. Fogel will still have to get approval for the full development plans. The next step in the process is for the property to be subdivided.
