Band concert
The Cressona Band will present a free concert at the Tamaqua ABC High Rise on June 8.The 7 p.m. show will feature show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear. The public is welcome to attend.The concert is being sponsored by Shafer's Pharmacy. The high-rise is located at 222 E. Broad St.Soup socialThe next monthly community soup social at Trinity United Church of Christ will be held Saturday. The social will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the social hall.The meal is free to the public and everyone is welcome to enjoy the soup, desserts, refreshments and time with friends.For more information or to volunteer, stop by the church, 22 Lafayette St., or call 570-668-4139.Rush-Ryan SeniorsThe Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met May 24 at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville. The 46 members in attendance observed Memorial Day with acting chaplain Ruthann Feane offering the invocation "A Prayer for Our Veterans."The business session was conducted by President Eleanor Schmerfeld and included an election of officers for 2017.The slate of officers will be: Bill Morrison, president; Schmerfeld, vice president; Feane, secretary; Shirley Becker, treasurer; and Norma Lee Burke, chaplain.Birthday wishes were extended to Diane Gould and Lorraine Lupcho.Several trips were added to the list of upcoming events: June 8 to Knoebels Grove in Elysburg; July 26, picnic at St. Peter's grove in Locust Valley; Aug. 16 to the Dutch Way Family Restaurant in Myerstown.Readings were offered by Feane and Shirley Becker.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the fire company. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley. The service will include Holy Communion.Also on Sunday, a basket raffle will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.Bible study sessions are held at 12:30 p.m. Thursdays.Lewistown Valley Bible School will be held from 6 to 8:15 p.m. from June 6-10. It will be held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle and is open to ages 2 through sixth grade.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville are held at 9 a.m. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m. The service will include Holy Communion.Also this Sunday, Sundae Sunday will be held at 10:15 a.m. and Cub and Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.Next week's activities include: Monday, softball games at 6:45 and 8 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m.; Thursday, senior choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, youth group camp out.St. John LutheranThe Rev.
