Carbon County firefighters once again had to perform two separate rescues in or near the Glen Onoko Falls on Sunday afternoon.

The first call sent Jim Thorpe firefighters to the area of the Glen Onoko Falls for a lost female hiker. The last time she was spotted was by a photographer with a high-powered telephoto lens. She was spotted in a clearing halfway up a vast mountain just south of the falls five hours after being separated from her group.A short time later Nesquehoning and Lehigh township fire departments were dispatched to a report of a man falling in the state game lands off Route 93.The initial report was that the victim was above the falls in the game lands.After talking with hikers it was learned the incident was at the first set of falls at Glen Onoko. The operation was then moved to the parking lot of the Lehigh Gorge State Park near the scene of the first rescue operation.Rescuers dressed in heavy gear in nearly 90-degree temperatures scaled the heavy terrains, bringing the injured male hiker to safety several hours later.After a six-hour search, the female hiker was brought to safety by a companion, according to Jim Thorpe Fire Chief Bill Diehm.Last week a hiker fell to his death at Glen Onoko. Another hiker remains in critical condition from the same incident.
