Slatington man gets prison term for drug possession

A Slatington man was sentenced to a Carbon County prison term on Thursday after pleading guilty to two drug counts.

Eric W. Peters, 34, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve three to 18 months in prison followed by one year of probation on a charge of possession of a controlled substance and one year probation on a possession of drug paraphernalia count with the terms running consecutively. In a plea bargain with the district attorney's office a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance was dropped.Peters was arrested on April 5 in the 200 block of Lehigh Avenue by Palmerton police. Police responded to the area for another incident, and during the investigation Peters was located in the area. He was found to have 10 packets of heroin in his possession.Peters is also facing criminal counts in Lehigh County.He told Nanovic he was addicted to drugs, was clean for over three years, then relapsed when he started to use painkillers.He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation. He was given credit for 51 days already spent in jail on the charges.
