Carbon County is continuing to see a decrease in its insurance costs.

The commissioners Thursday voted to renew the 2016-2017 insurance policy with the Pennsylvania Counties Risk Pool. The total premium cost is $211,424. This is a $15,173 decrease from last year.This is the fourth year in a row that the county has seen a decrease in its premium costs.In addition to covering employees, the insurance policy covers $98.7 million in county property and 52 vehicles, general liability, law enforcement liability, public officials' errors and omissions, automobile liability, medical payments for auto and premises claims, professional liability and crime, equipment breakdown and flood insurances.Carbon County is one of 49 counties and four county-related agencies that use the PCoRP insurance, operated by the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania. PCoRP, which was formed in April 1987, insures over $5.3 billion worth of property throughout Pennsylvania, as well as thousands of vehicles and employees.The policy will be paid on a 40-30-30 percent basis.In other matters, the commissioners approved the appointments and assignments for the Northeastern Pennsylvania Metropolitan Planning Organization Technical Planning Committee.The county representative will be David Bodnar of Carbon County Planning and Development; the county representative alternate is Harold Pudliner, Weatherly; the at-large representative, Ron Tirpak of Carbon Engineering; and at-large representative alternate, Eloise Ahner, Carbon County.The Carbon County Community Transit representative will be Owen O'Neil, executive director of LANTA, and the alternate will be Brendan Cotter, director of planning and development at LANTA.All terms will be from July 1 through June 30, 2018.
