The Mount Effort Shopping Plaza will be getting a new anchor store and a major redesign.
Preliminary land development plans have recently been presented to the Chestnuthill Planning Commission for the project which will include a more than 45,000-square-foot grocery store, additional shops and a redesigned park and ride for Martz Trailways. The plan, which will be developed in two phases will eventually include a standalone restaurant and day care facility as well."I chose Gerrity's to partner with on this project because it is an incredible, family-owned company that the people of this area are going to love," said Keith Beccia General Partner at Mount Effort Development Company LLC."They are like a mini-Wegmans, half the size of the ShopRite but with competitive pricing."The preliminary plans are before the planning commission and will go before the Chestnuthill supervisors for conditional use approval on June 1.One of the waivers up for consideration at that meeting will be parking. The ordinance in place calls for 734 parking spaces and the plan only allows for 614, of which 129 will be in the park and ride.Stores in the plaza were damaged by a fire in 2007.Also of concern to the township's engineer is the sewage disposal."We are hoping to bring these conveniences to the Effort residents," said Beccia."People here always have to travel so far. It will be nice to have a grocery store and dry cleaners and whatever so close to home."Gerrity's is a local company with a number of stores throughout the northeastern Pennsylvania.
