Heffley should oppose pipeline

Dear Editor,

Regarding Rep. Doyle Heffley's statement to the proposed windmill project in Penn Forest Township located on Bethlehem Water Authority lands.Heffley has taken a position opposing the project, stating the tourism-dependent region as one of his reasons. Why is Heffley staying silent with regard to the proposed PennEast pipeline that would cut a scar through our beautiful Carbon County? With a clear-cut path of 100 feet wide, the proposed route crosses wetlands and stream corridors of Lehigh River and Beltzville State Park, which flow to the Delaware river as a major source of water supply for residents of the city of Philadelphia. Not to mention Hickory Run State Park, other state parks and many acres of our forests which will be scarred forever.Heffley should be supporting the Carbon County commissioners and all the municipalities that have formally opposed the construction of the PennEast pipeline.George White Jr.Lehighton
