Police cruiser struck by pellet gun

Someone in the area of Spruce and Hunter streets in Tamaqua shot a pellet gun at borough police on May 13.

An officer was conducting a traffic stop at 11:40 p.m. on a Volvo displaying a suspended (for failure to have insurance) registration, when the officer and the Volvo's driver heard a "ping" as something struck the Volvo.The officer scanned the area and saw a male standing in a window in a building on Hunter St. The male quickly moved away from the window. As the officer returned to his cruiser there was another "ping" as something struck the passenger side door.Officers contacted the man who was seen in the window, but he denied any knowledge of the incident, saying he was just looking out to see what was happening.The driver of the Volvo was given a written warning and five days to show proof of insurance.The investigation is continuing and anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to call police at 570-668-5000.
