Parryville mayor can now write citations

After an early May meeting with Magistrate Judge William Kissner, Parryville Borough Mayor Dean Emrey has been entrusted with the power to write nontraffic citations in town.

"We had someone who used to write on envelopes, but people could just rip them up and nothing happened," Emrey said.Emrey said he spoke with Judge Kissner about how and when to use the stack of blank citations."They will be for things like parking or zoning and ordinance infractions. It's very new to us," Emery said.Without its own police force the 517 borough residents depend on the state for traffic enforcement, leaving nontraffic violations to go unchecked by a local office, until now."We are going to start using them right away," Emery said.
