Soup meal raises money for hunger; walk postponed

Thirteen soups and numerous breads and desserts were provided by 20 Tamaqua area businesses and churches during the Empty Bowl Dinner Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Tamaqua, as a kickoff for the local hunger weekend.

A family film, "Grace Unplugged," was shown at Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church in Tamaqua Saturday evening.Price of admission was a food item or cash donation.The hunger walk itself was postponed on Sunday due to threatening weather. The walk will take place next Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. at the St. Luke's Medical building on Railroad Street in Tamaqua.Registration begins at 1:30. An ice cream fellowship time follows the walk at Zion Lutheran.Area churches and businesses have been collecting food items for several weeks.Both the food and money raised will be evenly split among food pantries in Tamaqua at the Salvation Army, Trinity United Church of Christ and the Primitive Methodist Church.People or organizations still wishing to make a monetary or food donation may contact Paul Dodson this week at 570-668-0289 or
