Six area teams in playoffs

Six area teams will be in action this week as both the Schuylkill League and Colonial League hold baseball and softball playoffs.

Action will begin tonight as the Schuylkill baseball semis take place in Pine Grove. In the opening game of the doubleheader, Division 1 wildcard Tamaqua faces Division 2 champ Schuylkill Haven at 4:30 p.m. In the nightcap at 7 p.m., Division 3 champion Marian and Division 1 titlist North Schuylkill meet.The two winners will retun to Pine Grove on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the league championship game.In Schuylkill League softball, Tamaqua and Pine Grove meet tonight at 7 p.m. at Blue Mountain in a playoff for the Division 1 title. The loser of the game will be the Division 1 wildcard entry and will face Division 2 champ Williams Valley on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Blue Mountain. The winner of the tie-breaker game will be the Division 1 champ and meet Division 3 titlist Mahanoy Area on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Blue Mountain.The league championship game will be played on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Blue Mountain.The Colonial League will play both its baseball and softball semifinal doubleheaders on Tuesday.The baseball playoffs will take place at Parkland High School. In the 4 p.m. opener, Northwestern will face Notre Dame. In the nightcap of the twinbill at 7 p.m., Bangor and Southern Lehigh meet.The winners will play in the championship game on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Parkland.In Colonial League softball, Palmerton and Northwestern will both play in semifinal games on Tuesday at Pates Park in Allentown. The Bombers will face Catasauqua in the opening game of the doubleheader at 5 p.m. The Tigers will take on Bangor in the 7 p.m. nightcap.The winners will play for the CL title on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Pates Park.
