Penn Forest auditor charged with assaulting county detective

A Penn Forest auditor is in jail on a felony charge of aggravated assault and charges of disorderly conduct and harassment.

Matthew Charles Schutter, 45, of Jim Thorpe was arraigned Friday afternoon before Judge Edward Lewis.

According to the affidavit filed by Jim Thorpe Detective Lee Marzen, Schutter went to the Carbon County Courthouse just before 4:30 on March 28 where he became out of control. Employees pushed the panic button Chief County Detective Timothy Nothstein responded.

When Nothstein grabbed Schutter's arm to take him out of the building, Schutter tried to break free and injured Nothstein's thumb. Nothstein knocked Schutter's phone to the floor, according to the affidavit.

He continued to yell loudly and headed to the prothontary's office, which was about to close. Deputies again restrained him.

Later that night, Schutter went to the Jim Thorpe Police Station to file a complaint against Nothstein. Police interviewed him and started the investigation.

He was taken to jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
