May 13, 1960 - Tamaqua's Lafay Hope sets two meet records and teammate Lester Leibensberger also establishes one, as the Blue Raiders finish in second place at the annual Eastern Conference Southern Division track and field meet. Hope wins the mile in 4:47.4 to break his own standard, and takes the 880 in 2:10.3 - six seconds faster than the previous mark. Leibensberger ends in a first-place tie with Mount Carmel's Joe Menspace in the pole vault, both clearing a new best of 11-4. Tamaqua also gains a first from George Barron in the shot put.
