Towamensing supervisors say fire company is making positive step
Towamensing Township Supervisor Penny Kleintop said the township received numerous calls asking why the board of supervisors stopped the bingo. It did not - that was a fire company action.
Supervisor Guy Seifert asked if the stoppage was part of getting their house in order. Liaison Eric George said it was.The fire company came under fire after an audit recommended better organization for financial records.He said the company has appointed a fundraising option committee and is checking if they were making a profit from bingo."It sounds like a wonderful step forward," Seifert said.RoadworkThe road crew has been filling potholes, sweeping intersections, doing bridge maintenance and will add stone where the soccer field driveway meets Route 209. Seifert said the first 10 feet should be paved.The township will buy two aluminum goal posts for the recreation commission at $1,500 each. The PVC posts deteriorate from sunlight.A V-box spreader was sold for $5,000 and replaced by a tailgate spreader.Road bids are ready for Horseshoe, James Street, Margaret, Montage, Raymond, Reuben, Ridgeview Drive, Strohls Valley and Whispering Wood.The township has a tentative schedule for the next 15 years.The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting from 6-9 p.m. June 16 at the firehouse for its 2018 paving project on Route 209.The board adopted an ordinance for driveways entering onto a township road.Engineer Greg Haas or the roadmaster will check sight distance or anything adverse to drainage. The person will have one year to install the driveway.On Sundaythe triathlon will be biking on local roads and people should use special care. It begins with the swim division at 7 a.m.Historical propertiesRoy Christman and Paul Hoppel surveyed the historical properties list to check their condition.Three barns collapsed and one was demolished.The Historical Commission is pleased with the work done on the Koch Road Bridge and is concerned that the Buck Bridge in Beltzville was damaged.They hope it will be repaired.A hole was put in the floor of the Greenzweig School so an exterminator can get down. Seifert said he would get someone out to work on the roof.
