A Schuylkill County man, who previously pleaded guilty in three separate criminal cases, was placed in a special state program for those addicded to drugs.
Daniel James Brogan, 43, of McAdoo, was placed in the state’s Intermediate Punishment Program by Carbon County President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II on Monday for a period of two years. The IPP will be followed by one year of state probation.Brogan pleaded guilty to four counts of forgery for an incident on April 29, 2015, at the Weatherly Pharmacy, where he attempted to have four forged prescriptions filled. He also pleaded to one count of forgery for an incident on July 2, 2015, also at the Weatherly Pharmacy. He pleaded to one count of criminal attempt to acquire a controlled substance by misrepresentation. The incident occurred on June 30, 2015, at the Rite Aid pharmacy in Lehighton. The forged prescriptions were for oxycodone.Brogan, who is currently an inmate at the state correctional institution at Camp Hill, Dauphin County, told Nanovic, “I want to thank you for the opportunity.” Brogan previously admitted to a long-term drug addiction problem. He has pending charges in Luzerne County in which he is expected to be placed in the IPP.The IPP is an intensive program in which a defendant serves about seven months in prison, followed by a period of time in a inpatient rehabilitation program followed by placement in halfway house setting. If a person does not successfully complete the program they can be brought back and resentenced by the court.Nanovic also ordered Brogan to supply a DNA sample, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and pay court costs of about $1,000.The proceeding was done via video conference.
