New sheriff's union forms in Carbon County

A new union has formed in Carbon County and officials and those involved in the union have reached its first agreement.

On Thursday, the county commissioners approved a collective bargaining agreement with the Carbon County Sheriff's Association.The agreement is from Jan. 1, 2016 through Dec. 31, 2018.The union contract covers one lieutenant, two sergeants and seven deputy sheriffs in the county sheriff's office.The agreement establishes the starting rate of those individuals for 2016.It also calls for a 3 percent wage increase for 2017 and 2018, as well as a $5 increase in employee health insurance premium copays per pay and a $3 increase in out-of-pocket prescription costs for each year of the contract.The new union makes the fourth that has been established in various county departments.Others include two AFSCME unions and Teamsters.
