Dog missing from Palmerton for three weeks
A Palmerton woman is asking for the public's help in locating a missing dog that has been sighted multiple times over the last three weeks.
Denise I. Strohl, who has fostered two dozen Labradors as part of the Labs-4-Rescue program, says her most recent foster slipped its collar on April 14, just 12 days after it was brought to her home in Palmerton.
The dog was known to be in the area of Franklin Avenue between Sixth and Seventh streets.
Strohl said that between April 14 and May 1 there were several sightings between the dog was seen on a trail camera that was put up, but the sightings have since stopped.
Strohl has gotten assistance from the Hound Hunters of NEPA, and been in touch with the Carbon County Animal Shelter, which picks up lost dogs around the county. The shelter provided a trap, and Hound Hunters has been involved with the search.
"She was captured on camera visiting the trap area two to three times in the wee hours of the morning for the next four days. She seemed comfortable around the trap but would not enter it," Strohl said in an email on Friday.
Because the dog slipped her collar, she does not have any tags identifying her. However she is implanted with a Home Again microchip 985112002288906.
Before the dog was brought to Palmerton, she had lived most of her life feral in Georgia, Strohl said. She lived in a shelter for about a year before being brought to Palmerton as a foster.
Strohl said despite being feral, the dog was adjusting well to living with her. But she said she was having some trouble with the noise and commotion of living in a residential neighborhood.
"It didn't take her long to trust me. Unfortunately, she was not used to town living and everything around her spooked her," she said.
The dog is approximately 70 pounds, nearly all black with patches of white fur on its chest and feet.
If anyone sees the dog, Strohl asks that they do not call out to the dog, and simply report the sighting by calling 570-269-0474, or 610-704-6621. Include the location, date and time, and any notes about the dog's condition or disposition.
