Attorney Marianne Shutack Lavelle became the first woman ever admitted to practice before Carbon County Courts this morning.
On a petition presented by her father, attorney George A. Shutack, a prominent member of the Bar of Carbon County, Lavelle was issued her oath before a number of witnesses, including her husband, attorney John P. Lavelle, her mother, Mrs. George A. Shutack, and one of her citizen sponsors, Alice M. Zaengle of Nesquehoning.A graduate of the former Nesquehoning High School, Niagara University and Villanova University School of Law, Lavelle and her husband were earlier admitted to practice together before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
