Prothonotary's report

A total of cases 346 were started in April in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:Civil actions, 13; custody complaints, 12; petitions to modify custody, 18; district justice appeals, 3; divorce complaints, 20; complaints in ejectment, 7; license appeals, 3; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 24; protection from abuse petitions, 24; quiet title action, 1; tax sales, 2; zoning appeal, 1; judgments, 172; miscellaneous cases, 3; stipulations/waivers of liens, 5; and writs of executions, 38. The office also processed 199 applications for U.S. Passports and assisted 58 the public with 58 passport renewal applications.Behrens' financial report shows $29,456.56 was generated last month as follows:Prothonotary's fees, $25,100.78; interest income, $7.48; custody fees, $700; data processing fee, $3,598.30; PFA surcharge, courts, $25; PFA surcharge, Sheriff; $25; and remote access fees, $600.The prothonotary also remitted $3,966.10 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $83.20 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996.
