Easton man admits to assaulting corrections officer

An Easton man admitted in Carbon County court on Tuesday to assaulting a corrections officer at the county prison.

Jose Juan Perez-Martinez, 28, entered a guilty plea to one count of aggravated assault before Judge Joseph J. Matika.Perez-Martinez was charged by Nesquehoning police for an incident on Jan. 28. Police responded to the prison at the request of authorities who said one of their corrections officershad been assaulted by an inmate.On scene officer Richard A. Neikam learned that Perez-Martinez was found in a area of the prison going up and down stairs. He was told by the officer to stop his conduct but refused. He was then ordered to lock down (return to his cell), which he also refused. The officer then attempted to subdue the inmate with the assistance of other officers when Perez-Martinez struck the officer in the face. The officer also suffered injuries to his left knee in the incident.Matika accepted the plea but deferred sentencing.
