Court orders US Senate candidate back on ballot

HARRISBURG (AP) - Joe Vodvarka, a little-known Democratic Party candidate for U.S. Senate, has a big win in court.

The state Supreme Court on Tuesday reversed a lower court and ordered the semiretired spring manufacturing shop owner back onto Pennsylvania's primary ballot. The decision just one week before the primary election makes it a four-way race. Commonwealth Court had agreed with rival candidate Joe Sestak's challenge and ruled three weeks ago that Vodvarka hadn't submitted enough valid voter signatures to remain on the April 26 ballot. Also running are John Fetterman and Katie McGinty.Sestak is making his second run for U.S. Senate after losing to Republican incumbent Pat Toomey in 2010.Sestak's court challenge succeeded in knocking Vodvarka off the primary ballot that year.Vodvarka ran again in 2012 and lost to Sen. Bob Casey.
