Five calves being hauled along Interstate 81 in Foster Township, Schuylkill County, died when the truck their were in crashed. State police at Frackville said the incident at 7:10 a.m. Friday.

Troopers said Jacob D. Murchison, 31, of Thomson, Georgia, was driving a 1999 Ford F-350 truck southbound with trailer when he fell asleep at the wheel. He woke up when he heard the sound of the rumble strips and was already off the road onto the berm in the passing lane. Murchison attempted to correct the vehicle but over compensated causing the truck to jackknife and trailer to flip over onto the left side coming to rest partially in the passing. The five calves killed were among a total of 78 calves in the trailer.Murchison was not injured. He was cited for the crash.
