Man gets state prison for DUI with boy, 11, in vehicle

A Lehigh County man was sentenced to a state prison term Monday after previously admitting to driving drunk with an 11-year-old boy in the vehicle.

Ramon Junior Berrios, 56, of Allentown, who had pleaded to DUI and endangering the welfare of a child, was sentenced to serve 14 to 28 months in a state correctional institution by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II on the endangering count.Berrios was arrested on July 19, 2015, along Pohopoco Drive in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. The DUI count is for a controlled substance, marijuana, found in a blood test.Nanovic noted that Berrios has a "very poor prior criminal record." He is also facing a parole violation in Lehigh County.On the DUI charge he was sentenced to serve 14 months of five years in prison, concurrent with the first count, pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for 18 months, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol, and pay court costs of about $1,000.On a summary stop sign violation he was fined $25 and costs.
