Stroudsburg man killed in Route 209 crash

A Stroudsburg man died in a one-vehicle crash just prior to midnight Wednesday on Route 209 (Hamilton Road West) in Hamilton Township.

State police at the Swiftwater barracks said the identity of the man is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.Police said they were called to investigate a crash with entrapment that occurred at 11:56 just north of Lesh Road and learned the deceased was driving a vehicle northbound and negotiating a left curve when he apparently lost control of the vehicle.Police said the vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a tree on the driver's side.The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical providers. Members of the Monroe County Coroner's Office, the Blue Ridge Fire Company, St. Luke's EMS and PennDOT assisted at the scene.While police investigated the crash, the four-lane highway was shut down to traffic between Route 33 (Lehighton exit) and Lesh Road, as were the ramps leading vehicles onto Business Route 209.
