Baby's father: 'Now she has wings'

Bryan S. Felmly and Adrienne L. Kromer of Slatington had planned to save money for their infant daughter McKenna Rose's college education and marriage.

What they didn't plan on was having to pay for their beloved little girl's funeral expenses.McKenna died on April 1, her first day at Sharon's Day Care Center in Treichlers, Lehigh Township, after being put on her tummy for a nap and then left alone for 25 minutes."Our sweet little princess never learned to walk, but she now has wings," her heartbroken father wrote on a GoFundMe page, In Memory of McKenna Rose, to help raise money for her funeral. As of early Thursday, the site had raised $14,572.McKenna was born on Dec. 15."Fast-forward to three and a half months and our life changed forever. It was her first day back to work and our beautiful little princess's first day at daycare," Felmly wrote on the page.McKenna's mother, nervous at having to leave her infant for the first time, took her to the day care center at 7:45 a.m. April 1.The baby was happy and healthy."She called three different times to see how McKenna was doing since this was the first day she had been away from her Mommy longer than like an hour and a half," Felmly wrote.Staff told Kromer her baby was "doing fine." But when Kromer called at lunchtime, staff told her McKenna, who was being nursed, refused a bottle."Adrienne asked the daycare to syringe feed her since she only had 2 ounces since the time she was dropped off in the morning. Whether or not she did, we don't know," Felmly wrote.Kromer called again at about 2:30 p.m."Daycare said she took about 1.5 ounces but only got the milk out by gnawing on the nipple, and that she laid her down shortly after and she fell right asleep which is very unlike her," Felmly wrote. "She always takes a while to fall asleep. Lots of rocking, swaying, cuddling, etc."He wrote that Kromer told staff she would leave work at 3:30 p.m., an hour early, to get McKenna. But at 3:39 p.m., staff called her."Where are you? It's the baby! It's the baby! She's not breathing!!! Get here as fast as you can," Felmly quotes a day care worker as saying. He wrote that the worker said, "she went to check on her at (3 p.m.) to wake her up and feed her before Adrienne got there and she wasn't breathing. I guess she then called 911. We later found out that 911 was not dispatched until 3:33 p.m."Kromer arrived at the day care around 3:50 p.m., and Felmly about two minutes later."But they had already taken our sweet princess to the closest hospital. We then get in my car and drive as fast as we can to get there meanwhile stuck in Friday afternoon traffic. Longest 20 minutes of our lives," he wrote.McKenna was pronounced dead at Palmerton Hospital."We have no words, no answers, no nothing," he wrote.
