Lehigh man gets state prison term for drug, theft charges

A Lehigh County man was sentenced to a state prison term on Monday after previously admitting he had the materials needed to make methamphetamine in his residence.

Gregory Seip, 45, of Coopersburg, who also had a Palmerton address at one time, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve a total of nine to 24 months in state correction institution followed by one year of state probation. Seip also pleaded to two counts of receiving stolen property and one of theft.Ship was charged by Palmerton police with counts of risking or causing a catastrophe, possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, liquified ammonia gas, precursors and chemicals, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, operating a methamphetamine lab and illegal dumping of methamphetamine waste. He was charged with Maria McKittrick, 51. She and Seip were also charged with two counts of criminal conspiracy.The two were arrested after police were called to their residence in the 900 block of Mauch Chunk Road. While on scene police discovered hundreds of pounds of copper wire stolen from the Alliance Sand Company in Lower Towamensing Township.Police also found materials used for making meth that led to the drug charges.The receiving counts stem from a June 13, 2015, incident in Lehighton. Ship was observed operating an all-terrain vehicle along Blakeslee Boulevard. A short chase followed with police finding Seip and the ATV behind property of the Mahoning Inn.Seip told Nanovic, "I used poor judgment." He added, "I'd like to put all this behind me and get on with my life."In addition to the jail term, Seip was ordered to make total restitution of $7,310.96 and pay court costs of about $1,000. He was given credit for 183 days spent in prison to date on the charges.McKittrick is scheduled to plead guilty to her part in the drug case on April 25.
