Carbon fugitive charged in series of armed robberies
A Carbon County man who is linked to a series of armed robberies in several counties is in custody.
Kyle Heim, 34, of Albrightsville, was charged Monday and is in the Monroe County Correctional Facility.The first incident happened at 4:20 p.m. April 3, when state police at Fern Ridge station attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a stolen black Ford F-150. The operator, Heim, had multiple outstanding warrants.Heim then fled in the vehicle, leading police on a pursuit, which resulted in pending charges, including aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer; theft of a motor vehicle; reckless endangerment; fleeing and eluding; and numerous summary traffic offenses.Since then, police said Heim committed multiple armed robberies and thefts that occurred throughout Carbon and Monroe counties.Heim was seen driving the black Ford F-150 in Penn Forest Township, and was considered armed and dangerous.On Monday, Pennsylvania State Police from the Fern Ridge, Lehighton and Swiftwater stations searched for Heim in Carbon and Monroe counties.Additional charges, including robbery and fugitive from justice, are pending.Multiple warrantsAt 12:50 p.m. Monday, state police at Lehighton apprehended Heim in Walnutport based on multiple warrants, according to police.One of the warrants for Heim was out of Hardin County, Kentucky, for theft, endangerment and parole violation.State police at Lehighton confirmed the warrant out of Kentucky.Heim was transported back to the Lehighton barracks, where he admitted that he has been running from the police due to the warrants, and confessed to an armed robbery that was committed on Sunday at the Dollar General Store in Saylorsburg.For that incident, he faces charges on one count of arrest before requisition.Dollar GeneralAccording to an affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Shaun Flynn of the Pennsylvania State Police:On Sunday, at 11:12 a.m., Heim entered the Dollar General Store, located at 938 Old Route 115 Saylorsburg, wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt, with the hood in an upward position; a lighter gray skull cap, dark sun glasses, bluejeans, and dark colored shoes.Heim walked up to the counter with an orange juice and an orange soda, and said to the cashier to "give me all the money in the register."He then pulled up the shirt he was wearing and partially displayed a black pistol.The cashier then gave him $535 out of the register, and Heim ran out of the store.A witness who reported the robbery to state police at Lehighton, said Heim left in a Ford F-150.Video surveillance was obtained from the Dollar General Store.Heim was known to police to operate a black F-150 during the time frame of this incident.For that incident, he faces charges on one count each of robbery, theft and instruments of crime/weapon.Heim matches the description of the man who committed an armed robbery at the Square One Gas Station and Dollar General Store in Penn Forest Township early Monday morning.
